Spring is here, and there is a lot going on to get your garden started! If you’re not much of a gardener but still want access to nutritious, affordable food, check out the Alex Community Food Centre, at 4920 17 Ave SE. They have a ton of programs and a free drop-in community lunch on Wednesdays. Check out their program schedule for more info at

The “Coming Out Monologues” are back, and have pay-what-you-can entry fees starting at $3, on March 21-23, at the John Dutton Theatre in the downtown library. It’s an accessible theatre on the C-train line. You can get tickets through , or find out more about the event at . Hillhurst United Church is also hosting “Coming Out in Faith” April 6 & 7, and you can get tickets for that event here:

If you have lost, or don’t have legal ID, Calgary Legal Guidance has their Spring ID Schedule up! You can get free picture ID. It is not government ID, but it is legal ID. Please arrive on time.

Mar 12: Renter’s Rights Workshop@ Women’s Centre of Calgary (39-4 St NE). 6pm. This interactive workshop aims to empower renters to know and exercise their rights. It is intended for women-identified participants. There will be light refreshments and childcare available. RSVP by calling (403) 264-1155. Mar 12: Calgary Gets Consent Workshop: Community Bystander Interventions @ CommunityWise Resource Centre (223 12 Ave SW). 4-7 pm, refreshments provided. Learn more about consent, relationships, and what it means to be an “active bystander”.

Mar 14: Mario Kart Classic @ The Rec Room (1180 901 64 Ave NE). 7pm. Tournament winners will get prizes, everyone will get a good time playing classic Nintendo on the switch.

Mar 14: Maudie @ The Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Road NW). This movie is being shown as part of the “Science in the Cinema” Series. Movie starts at 6:30pm, and follows a Nova Scotian woman with arthritis. Dr. Mosher, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at the U of C will lead a discussion after the movie.

Mar 15: Rock-a-Palooza Gem & Mineral Show @ Spruce Meadows, Gallery in the Green Congress Hall. Thurs-Sat 10am-8pm, Sun 10am-5pm.  Get your inner geologist going!

Mar 16: Planning your Garden @ Lee Valley Hardware (7261 11 St SE). This event will give you an idea of what you need to plan before you get your garden in the ground, with lots of free tips and advice.

Mar 16: Open House @ The Worx (130 910 7 Ave SW) Check out accessible services, and demonstrations of assistive technologies from 2-4 pm.



Mar 14: Planning your Edible Garden for Success @ West Hillhurst Community Association (1940 6 Ave NW). 6:30-9 pm. $20. Learn about what grows well in Calgary, and gets tips and a starter kit, including a “gardeners cheat sheet”. Please phone (403) 283-0464 to register.

Mar 17: Seedy Saturday @ Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association. 10 am. Admission is $2, and Calgary Dollars are accepted.

Mar 18: Lego Building Competition @ Renfrew Community Association (811 Radford Rd NE) Public Admission $2,  2-4pm. If you want to enter the competition, email for more info.
