It’s time for CASS’ 3rd Annual Airways Park Cleanup! We will be meeting in the parking lot on the corner of 27 Ave & 16th St NE at 12:30pm, and cleaning until 2/2:30pm. Gloves, bags, and refreshments will be provided.

It’s coming closer…. The Disability Pride Parade! On Sunday June 3rd. The colours to wear this year are orange and teal (but you are welcome to wear whatever colours you like!) and we will be meeting at 11 am under the white trees at 315 8 Ave SW, then heading down Stephen Avenue towards Olympic Plaza, where we party until 2pm. The event is free, but you will want to register through to make sure that the organizers know to get enough food for everyone for the end of the parade!

There are a number of opportunities for artists in Calgary right now, through our Public Art Program. To see what’s happening right now, check out   

If you live in the greater forest lawn area, Enmax and Aspen are hosting a community conversation about challenges related to energy and utilities payments, and energy savings practices on Friday May 25, from 6-8pm. Transportation and childcare are available upon request, please let me know if you plan on going and I will send you the contact information. You will need to register by May 21.



May 23: Criminal Record Impacts on Employment @ Kahanoff Centre (Jim Hume room, 105 12 Ave SE) 11:30 am – 1pm. Learn more about record suspension (pardon process), Bonding, how to speak about your record with employers, Privacy legislation, the different types of information checks, human rights legislation, and how to deal with applications containing intrusive questions.

May 23-26: Calgary International Children’s Festival @ Olympic Plaza. The outdoor event are always free and fun, but check out to see some of the paid programming, as well.

May 25 - September 2: Summer Exhibitions Open @ Esker Foundation (4th floor 1011 9 Ave SE) Art by Vanessa Brown, Anna Torma, and Jolie Bird.

May 25: Folk Fest Teaser @ East Village Junction 4:30 – 6pm. Bring a blanket and enjoy the free concert by Altameda

May 26: Weaselhead Bio Blitz @ Weaselhead Park (37 St & 66 Ave SW) 9:30 am -1 pm “Learn about different species of flora and fauna in the park while collecting data on biodiversity for monitoring purposes” This months’ blitz is a flower count. June 23 will be about terrestrial beetles, and July 22 will be a bumblebee watch. These events occur throughout a 4-5km walk, over uneven terrain.

May 26: Community Garage Sale @ Deer Run (throughout the community, and at the community centre- 2223 146 Ave SE) 8am-2pm.

May 26: Parade of Garage Sales @ Throughout Inglewood, 8am-2pm.

May 26: Spruce up the Neighbourhood @ West Hillhurst Community Association (1940 6 Ave NW) 10am-2pm. If you have electronics to recycle, kids sports equipment to donate, clothing, household goods, old tires, old paint or hazardous waste, you can get rid of it here. Yard and organic waste will incur a $5 charge, while car seat recycling will be $10.

May 26: Super Saturday @ Calgary Firefighters Museum (4144 11 St SE) Learn more about fire safety and take part in a craft, and check out our AMAZING firefighters museum.

May 26: Green Season @ MRU (4825 Royal Gate SW) Learn more about pollinators, renewable energy, gardening, conserving water, and more. Starts at 8:30am.

May 27: Perennial Plant Exchange @ North Mount Pleasant Art Centre (523 27 Ave NW) 10am-Noon. Bring a plant, leave a plant, and you can take a tour of the art facility while you’re there. has all of the info.


May 24: 3-Day Kung Fu Movie Marathon @ Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW) Times Vary. Tickets are $10 for a single admission, $15 for the Thursday double feature, or $20 for the Sunday triple feature.  Films and info can be found here:

May 26: Panel One Comic Creator Festival @ Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association (1320  5 Ave NW) 11am-7pm. Artist tables, Q&A Panels, and more, featuring local, internationally renowned, comic creators. Admission is $5.

May 26: East Town Get Down @ International Ave (26-61 streets, along 17th Ave SE) 6pm. $30 gets you a wristband, which gets you into 8 venues filled with live music from local icons, including Forbidden Dimension, Rae Spoon, Yolanda Sargeant, BLKFT, and so many more. May 26& 27: Spring Calgary Reptile Expo @ Midsun Community Centre (50 Midpark Rise SE) Sat 10 am-5pm, Sun 11am-4pm. Admission is $7, members get in for free.
